Bee bread

The incredible power of bee bread

Bee bread is one of the valuable products produced by bees. More and more people appreciate the therapeutic effect of not only honey, but also other products which are widely used in apitherapy. In order to enjoy robust health for many years, one should take advantage of the benefits of nature. Bee bread is not always easy to obtain, and its price is many times higher than the price of honey. It is an exceptional bee product, extremely important not only for humans but also for bees. Its deficiency causes underdevelopment and weakening of a bee colony, and obtaining 1 kg of bee bread is associated with the destruction of 5-30 frames built by the bees.

What is bee bread?

Bee bread is pollen processed by bees. The transformation process begins on a flower, when bees moisten the pollen with their saliva. This allows them to glue it together to transport it in baskets on their legs to the hive. When the pollen is transferred and pressed into combs, it undergoes lactic fermentation. The mother bee and her young mainly feed on this product.  It is primarily food for the autumn-winter period and also for early spring. It is interesting to note that bees that eat bee bread live longer than those that eat pollen. Perhaps this is the result of the royal jelly content, which is referred to as the elixir of youth or the royal gift because of its properties.

Ingredients of bee bread

Primarily bee bread consists of pollen, honey and secretions from the bees’ salivary glands. The bees whisk the ingredients together in the cells of the comb, then protect the mixture with wax. The pollen collected and preserved in this way undergoes lactic fermentation in the environment of the bee’s nest, which temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius. During this process, pollen proteins are broken down into peptides and amino acids, the content of simple sugars increases, as well as the amount of lactic acid, thanks to which the product is protected from spoilage. The properties of bee bread are extremely valuable. They also surpass the therapeutic effects of pollen due to their richer composition, easier assimilability and preservation process. Bee bread contains many vitamins (C, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, A, PP, K, E, H, D) as well as micro- and macroelements, such as magnesium, iron, copper, zinc, potassium, phosphorus and sodium. Compared to pollen, it has fewer proteins and fats.

Influence of bee bread on an organism

Bee bread has a similar composition and effect as pollen. However, they are not identical, due to the enzymes contained in bee bread and the lack of a pollen envelope, which hinders the absorption of the nutrients it contains. Bee bread has a rich microbiological composition. First of all, it strengthens the body’s immune system and supports the treatment with pharmaceuticals. It also supplies nutrients to the body and strengthens the nervous system, which is why it is used in the treatment of depression and enhances creative thinking. It also supports concentration and memory. It can be used during periods of increased mental effort. Moreover, it is also used in apitherapy, i.e. treatment with bee products.  Bee bread has a regulating effect on the functioning of the digestive system. Thanks to its antibacterial properties, it is recommended especially during the periods of lowered immunity, e.g. in the autumn and winter season. Moreover, it has a soothing effect on allergic reactions. It is therefore worth starting the use of bee bread before the pollen season. It also regulates the level of cholesterol in the blood and reduces the total amount of lipids, which makes bee bread anti-atherosclerotic and, like most bee products, has a beneficial effect on the heart. In addition, it has anti-ageing and anti-anemic effects, thanks to the antioxidants it contains, and it regenerates all the cells in the body. It is also important to note that bee bread is widely used in liver cleansing and has a detoxifying and protective effect.

How do I use bee bread?

The use of bee bread is analogous to the use of pollen. The daily dose for an adult should be approximately 30-40 grammes, but it is not possible to overdose on this product. It is enough to eat one tablespoon of bee bread every day to regenerate and strengthen the body. To prepare a suitable remedy, pour a tablespoon of bee bread in water and drink it on an empty stomach in the morning. Dissolving the product in water 10 hours before drinking increases the effect many times over. It is worth replacing morning coffee with such a concoction, which works better, longer and certainly healthier.
